Fun Facts About Mrs. Scott

I'm sure excited to get going back to school again.  I look forward to learning with you.  Here are some fun facts to learn a little bit more about me that some of you may not already know!  (My students probably know a lot of this!)

-I am a lefty who was born on Christmas and married a Christmas Eve baby.

-My husband and I are one year apart and so on Christmas Eve we are the same age.

-I got married and started teaching the exact same year (1997), and my husband and I have been married for 26 years.  (I think we would both agree we were the best decision we both have ever made.)

-Andy claims he is support staff for the school.  I would agree! ;-)

-I have over 50 family members who have attended West Jefferson High School.  My uncle Charles was in the first graduating class.  There were three students in his class. My parents, siblings, my husband and I, and our kids all attended West Jeff! We are Panther fans through and through!

-I received my first B since 4th grade from Mr. Blaine in my 10th grade year in Geometry!  I’m still working on liking that subject to this day! Ha!

-I had a really serious accident in college at BYU while walking to class.  I slipped on some ice, spiral fractured my fibula and my foot came unattached from my leg.  I had to have surgery.  The dang thing has never been the same since; and as I get older, it is gets worse, thus my limp!

-I love the color orange and while my students have emphatically told me “No” many times, I’d love to see that be snuck in as a school color! (Don’t worry it’s just a dream-I did get a class one year make it their homecoming t-shirt color!  There was so much backlash, I’d never do it again! Ha!).

-I started the 1,000 point club as a teacher at the school for athletes in basketball who have scored a 1000 points.  I know of some members who I’ve given cards to, but would love to make this an official club and something we celebrate.  If you know of someone to add, I’m making that a project! ;-)

-Some of you saw the amazing amount of books in my classroom, but I also have a library in my home (work in progress!)  I’m sad that the principal’s office is so small, it limits the amount of books that can be in there! ;-)

-My husband is a medical laboratory scientist and also the manager of five Express Labs throughout Idaho.  He has done this job for about 20 years.   I strongly believe that him getting a four-year degree and also CLS certification, he has been able to advance in his career.  It was a strong example to me of one of my strongest philosophies of education which is that more education/training/skills =  more choices and opportunities.

-We have two wonderful children, Peyton (19) and and Sonnet (16).

-Peyton loves farming, welding, and trying new things.   He was very busy in high school, and we loved following him around.  We miss him as he is working in American Falls in an apprenticeship for welding. I love when he pops in around the school! We are proud of him finding ways to achieve his dreams.

-Sonnet is still in high school, and we love following her to all of her activities.  We especially love watching her develop her talent with the cello and being involved in orchestra. She loves to run with cross country and track, cheer for her sport teams, and be involved in leadership and FCCLA.

-I was a Ricks College (Associates in English) and BYU graduate (English teaching and a coaching minor).    After teaching high school for about seven years, I decided I wanted to be the first person in my family to get a master’s degree.   I received a psychology master’s degree from Capella Online University.   I did the whole degree online while teaching.  I beat my brother by one month in finishing my degree.

-I have taught online English classes for BYU-Idaho and BYU-Hawaii

-I’ve taught just about any English and speech class that can be taught.  I’ve also taught over the years here: psychology, creative writing, and reading.  I used to teach drama, poetry, advanced speech, PE, sociology, novels, and leadership.

-I’ve also been lucky enough to work in many different activities and sports including girls’ volleyball, basketball, softball, leadership, drama, honor society, scholastic bowl, judged BPA events, attended FCCLA events, and DYW.

-Four years ago, I had this strong feeling that I needed to go back to school and continue my education.  I wasn’t sure why then, but it makes sense now.   I attended NNU and got an education specialist degree in school administration.

-My interests include reading anything and everything fiction and nonfiction alike, writing, writing poetry, teaching anything, gardening (okay my husband does the hard work, I freeze it and order seeds), taking on big projects, doing fun things with my extended family, traveling, online scrapbooking, photography, and my newest obsession and love is cooking, catering, cooking contests, and learning about food through travelling, eating it, and then trying to recreate it!  I wish there was an online culinary school! :-)  I love to learn anything new.  I love being busy and having a lot of things going on.
